"Just What I Needed" Video Clip

La canción que le da el nombre al blog, en mi opinión la mejor de The Cars que junto con otros temas de su album debut como "Good Times Roll" y "My Best Friend's Girl" los lanzaron a la fama, aunque se dice que no ganaron dinero hasta su tercer disco. En ella se aprecia toda la fuerza (dada por las guitarras de Ric Ocasek y Elliot Easton y los impresionantes vocales de Benjamin Orr) y el sonido innovador de la banda (aportado por los sintetizadores de Greg Hawkes).
El video de promoción que está a continuación, está aparentemente un poco acelerado, porque la música no está en su tonalidad original (E), sino que se escucha un poco más agudo.

"Rock Goes To College" Live In UK [1979]

"Rock Goes To College" fue una serie de programas de cadena televisiva BBC que estuvo en el aire entre los años 1978 y 1981 en la televisión británica. Una variedad de conciertos en vivo de bandas de rock emergentes fueron transmitidos en simultáneo por radio y televisión en programas de 40-50 minutos. Estos shows eran realizados en colegios y universidades (de ahí su nombre) donde pocos cientos de personas acudían al concierto lo que promovía una atmósfera "más íntima". Generalmente las entradas para dichos recitals eran repartidas entre las uniones de estudiantes para ser distribuidas gratuitamente (para garantizar de que estuvieran llenos los conciertos). Las bandas elegidas no eran grupos de moda aunque varios de ellos se convirtieron en muy famosos después.
The Cars participó de este programa en enero de 1979. Tocaron en la Universidad de Sussex, Brighton e interpretaron las siguientes canciones:

The Cars Live Musikladen [1979]

Esta serie de videos es un show completo en vivo grabado para la serie de programas musicales alemán llamado "Musikladen", el cual captura toda la fuerza del grupo a fines de los '70s y demuestra lo sólido que era el grupo a la hora de interpretar sus propios temas, al igual que sus excelentes dotes como compositores y arregladores.
La banda se encontraba en su única gira por Europa. Este show fue grabado en los estudios de la radio Breman.
Son 11 los temas incluidos, pertenecientes a sus 2 primeros álbumes salvo "Take What You Want", tema que fue editado en la edición de lujo del album debut "The Cars" en el año 1999.

Introducción

Live Aid fueron 2 conciertos realizados el 13 de julio de 1985, en forma simultánea en el Estadio Wembley de Londres, Inglaterra y en el Estadio J.F.K de Philadelphia, EE.UU., cuyo motivo fue recaudar fondos en beneficio de los países de África oriental, en concreto, Sudán, Etiopía y Somalia.

Historia

Después de una gran sequía producida entre 1983 y 1985 en la region árida del norte de Etiopia se produjo lo que se denominó en ese entonces "el infierno de la tierra", la falta de alimentos y la poca agua que había provocaron una muerte masiva de la población por culpa del hambre que reinaba.

La cadena de televisión BBC mostró al mundo lo que ocurría, esto impulsó al músico y actor Bob Geldof a viajar para conocer sobre el terreno lo que estaba pasando en Africa y posteriormente a crear la fundación Band Aid Trust encargada de manejar y distribuir toda la ayuda que se lograra recaudar gracias a los dos conciertos.

Para lograr la atención del mundo, Geldof y su amigo y ayudante de la fundación, el cantante y vocalista de Ultravox, Midge Ure, lograron comunicarse con la mayoría de los grandes artistas de la época que, sin problema en participar, se hicieron presentes de forma voluntaria mostrando lo mejor de sí.

Entre los presentes se puede nombrar a: Bob Dylan, Queen, The Cars, Elton John, George Michael, Madonna, Dire Straits, Bryan Adams, Status Quo, Paul McCartney, The Who, Reo Speedwagon, U2, Phil Collins, Sting, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Tears For Fears, Duran Duran, judas priest, Spandau Ballet, Sade, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Mick Jagger, Patti LaBelle, The Beach Boys, Simple Minds, Hall & Oates, etc.

La gran participación de artistas logró que el evento resultara un gran éxito y marcara parte de la historia musical, mostrando al mundo que la música podía crear conciencia y ayudar a la gente de Africa.

La recaudación supero los 100 millones de dólares, el concierto fue retransmitido en directo vía satélite en más de 72 países y fue uno de los eventos musicales más vistos en todo el mundo.

Grandes momentos en Wembley

A las 14.00 del 13 de julio de 1985 se dio inicio al espectáculo llamado LIVE AID en el estadio Wembley, comenzando la ceremonia se interpretó el himno de Inglaterra y posteriormente se dio la bienvenida a los príncipes de Gales (Carlos y Diana).

El primer grupo en salir a escena fue Status Quo, provocando que el público comenzara a entusiasmarse y a disfrutar con cada grupo presente. Cada participación fue exitosa pero sin duda uno de los momentos más destacable del concierto en Wembley fue la actuación del grupo U2, que durante la interpretación de la canción "Bad", su vocalista Bono eligió una mujer del público para bailar con ella; en vista de que la cantidad de gente impedía que la chica se acercase al escenario, el propio Bono bajó hasta donde se encontraba y la ayudó a salir y bailó unos minutos con ella. Otro momento muy destacable fue la participación de Queen tocando 5 de sus mejores clásicos como "Crazy little thing called love", "Hammer to fall" y "We are the champions". En el momento de la interpretación de "Radio Ga-Ga", Freddie Mercury logró la coordinación general del estadio cuando el público aplaudía durante el coro de dicha canción, después viene el duelo vocal de Freddie con el público muy característico de las presentaciones de Queen. La última canción de la actuación de la banda fue "We are The Champions", y, como ya era costumbre, fue interpretado como un himno por todos los presentes.

Otro gran momento fue la participación de Dire Straits junto a Sting, interpretando "Money for Nothing" y provocando un gran entusiasmo entre los espectadores. También es muy recordable, sin duda, la interpretación de "Heroes" por David Bowie, considerado un clásico de todos los tiempos.

Después de casi 9 horas de concierto, el último artista en escena fue el gran Paul McCartney interpretando "Let it Be" al piano acompañado en coro por Bob Geldof, David Bowie y Alison Moyet logrando uno de los momentos más emocionantes del certamen. Para finalizar, Bon Geldof invitó al escenario a todos los grupos y artistas que estuvieron presente para cantar la canción que fue escrita para dicho evento, "Do they know it's Christmas", interpretada por todos los artistas y por las 75.000 almas que llenaban Wembley.

Bob Geldof dio los gracias a todos por el apoyo y por la recaudación que se logró para la ayuda de los pueblos hambrientos de África, dando paso al concierto de Philadelphia que en ese momento ya se estaba realizando.

Grandes momentos en el estadio J.F.Kennedy

En la tarde del 13 de julio de 1985, 78.000 personas llenaron el estadio JFK de Philadefia para ayudar y apoyar la causa liderada por Geldof y disfrutar de LIVE AID. 4 horas más tarde del inicio del concierto de Inglaterra comenzó éste, abriendo el show el consolidado artista canadiense Bryan Adams y logrando un gran recibimiento de la gente. Luego, una gran cantidad de artistas y bandas se hicieron presentes, todos con gran éxito en sus actuaciones.

Entre los momentos más destacables se puede nombrar la actuación del grupo de heavy-metal Black Sabbath con Ozzy Osborne en vocales (recordando que ya hacía más de 6 años que se había retirado de la agrupación). Otro gran momento fue la interpretación del tema "Don't You (Forget About Me)" por el grupo Simple Minds que era uno de los temas más populares de la época en todo el mundo. La participación de Madonna interpretando sus máximos hits, provocó la exaltación del público en general dejando en claro por qué era considerada la reina del pop ya en esa época.

La participación de Robert Plantt junto junto a Led Zeppelin interpretando "Starway to Heaven" logró que todo el público coreara dicha canción con gran fervor.

Phil Collins salió a escena, fue el único artista que logró estar en los 2 conciertos: primero cantando junto a Sting en Wembley y luego volar en el Concorde directamente hasta Philadelfia para llegar al estadio JKF y tocar al piano "Against all Odds", y posteriormente la batería junto a los Zeppelin y a Eric Clapton, otro que destacó, gracias a su talento, en guitarra e interpretación.

La interpretación del clásico de Bob Dylan, "Forever Young" por Patti Labelle logró gran expectación del público, provocando uno de los momentos más emocionantes del concierto por su magnífica actuación.

Mick Jagger & Tina Turner interpretando a duo "State Of Shock" lograron unos de los momentos más agitados del concierto y generaron un ambiente de fiesta para todos los presentes.

Después de una breve pero notable interpretación de "Blowing In The Wind" por Bob Dylan, Lionel Ritchie aparece en escena invitando a todos los artitas presentes, como lo hizo Geldof en el concierto anterior, para interpretar la canción que fue el gran himno de LIVE AID - AMERICA, "We are the world", compuesto el año anterior por Ritchie y Michael Jackson, que no pudo estar presente en el evento por motivos de trabajo. La interpretación de "We are the world" por todos los artistas y por un coro de niños sobre el escenario fue, sin duda, el momento más emocionante de todo el concierto, logrando el aplauso general y dando paso al cierre del evento. LIVE AID, que en total duró más de 16 horas, fue visto por más de 3000 millones de personas en todo el mundo.

Bob Geldof logró lo que se proponía y toda la ayuda fue destinada a la gente de Africa.

Otro video del exitoso disco de 1984 "Heartbeat City", que logró alcanzar el #12 en los Billboard Hot 100 de ese año.

"Tonight She Comes" Video Clip

"Tonight She Comes" pertenece a la recopilación de éxitos "Greatest Hits" de 1985.
Era el único tema nuevo del grupo en dicho album, el cual posteriormente se convirtió en un hit debido a su nivel musical, el cual está a la par de las restantes canciones.
